Brushless DC motor with fan forced power
New ventilated brushless DC motor with power level improvement
The new 52mm BLDC motors from maxon include the addition of an internally mounted fan that forces air directly across the motor winding. Open windings are common for external rotor motors, also called out-runners, however this design offers the speed and torque characteristics of an internal rotor motor with the addition of an internally mounted fan drawing air between the rotor and stator. This is a 16 pole, 3 phase 24V and 48V brushless DC motor. The forced air cooling increases the motor power from the sealed motor rating of 180W up to 420W. The continuous torque rating increases from 400mNm without ventilation up to 1Nm with ventilation. The length of the motor does not change between the sealed motor, open rotor or force cooled motors as the fan is mounted behind the flange inside the motor. Despite drawing air in through the front motor flange and expelling it out of the rear motor flange, all versions are available with planetary gearheads and encoders. Engineers have created unique mounting adaptors to divert the airflow between the motor and gearhead and around the encoder. These high power but small BLDC motors open new possibilities for the robotics and actuator industries. maxon motor Australia tel. +61 2 9457 7477.
